Odyssey Wreck

Odyssey Wreck

Measuring 300 feet long, 50 feet wide, and 85 feet tall, The Odyssey is Roatan’s largest wreck dive and one of the largest in the Caribbean. Intentionally sunk in 2002 for divers, the ship remains mostly intact and offers a thrilling challenge best suited for advanced divers with a wreck diving certification.

The wreck lies 110 feet beneath the surface, with its center section collapsed but its bow standing tall and upright. This provides striking views of the surrounding reef wall, a nearby sandy patch, and the rest of the ship.

Holes have been cut into the ship’s sides for diver entry, but an underwater flashlight is essential to explore its vast interior. The wreck is teeming with marine life, and divers often encounter schools of large groupers, barracudas, tuna, and even sharks circling the site. Its sheer size and multi-level complexity make it impossible to fully explore in just one dive.

The Odyssey was donated by the Hydes of Hybur Limited after a devastating fire damaged the freighter during reconstruction. The ship was carefully cleaned and prepared for diving with the help of several island dive operators and volunteers. Fifty truckloads of debris were removed, and heavy hatch covers were welded to reinforce the structure, ensuring it would remain safe for divers for years to come.
